Air Conditioning

  • The average auto owner doesn’t really understand that automotive air conditioners need periodic service, until there is no cool air on a hot day. Let me share some of the reasons why they fail.

  • First, like every machine, your vehicles air conditioner parts need lubrication. This lubricant is actually mixed in with the refrigerant. So sometimes, even though the air conditioner is still making cool air, the oil that lubricates the parts has just been used up.  This is why it is important to make sure to get your air conditioning serviced periodically.  So on that really hot day, when you need your air conditioner, it will be working properly.

  • Run your air conditioner for a couple of times in the winter, to keep the oil lubricating the parts.  So it does not sit unused for the winter months.  Helps prolong the use of your Air Conditioner.  This will really help on the hot summer days when you really need some cool air.

  • It is wise to periodically purge the system and replace the refrigerant to clear out the air and water.  Do not wait until you A/C is making noise or no longer produces cool air.  This might increase your cost of repairs.

Cooling System Repair

The cooling system on a car driving down the freeway dissipates enough heat to heat two average-sized houses! The primary job of the cooling system is to keep the engine from overheating by transferring this heat to the air.  This is why your cooling system is so important to the everyday function of your vehicle. The engine in your car runs best at a fairly high temperature. When the engine is cold, components wear out faster, and the engine is less efficient. The important job of the cooling system is to allow the engine to heat up as quickly as possible, and run at a constant temperature.

There are multiple indicators of deteriorating or improperly functioning brakes.  These include:

  • Pulsating Brakes.

  • The light on your dashboard for your brakes/ABS is lit up.

  • Your brake pedal is slow to respond and feels rather soft.

  • Hearing any type of grinding and squealing while you're braking.

  • Brake dashboard lights are showing up as a red light, which can indicate an imbalance within your brake system.

Catalytic converters use a combination of heat and specialty metals to convert carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons into water vapor and carbon dioxide. The rest of your exhaust system — resonators, mufflers, exhaust manifolds, and pipes — help quiet and cool the engine. Every part of an exhaust system is important to the proper mechanics of your vehicle.

If your ‘check engine light’ comes on while you are driving around, especially if it’s flashing, then you need to get your car looked at right away. The chances are that it’s an emission related problem. You might have exhaust or emissions trouble if your car is hard to start, runs rough, or if it’s noisy or smoking.  Schedule an appointment with Bob & Dave’s Garage. We will do a comprehensive inspection of all exhaust components, give you an estimate, replace all exhaust parts that are broken, missing, or malfunctioning, and have you on your way.
